Google Timeline

You get
Timeline.json (or location-history.json)
Rough size
Tens of MB for a decade

Everything Buho reads out of it lands in Positions.

Google no longer ships Timeline with Takeout: your location history now stays on your phone, so the export has to be done from there. It takes a minute, no waiting.

  1. Open your phone's Settings app — the system settings, not the Google Maps app.
  2. Go to LocationLocation servicesTimeline, and pick your Google account if it asks.
  3. Tap Export Timeline data and choose where to save it.
  4. You get a Timeline.json file. Send it to your computer (Drive, email, cable), then come back here.

Your phone shows these labels in its own language, and the menus move around between versions.

Timeline now lives on the phone, not in Takeout: the export comes out of your phone settings, so it has to travel to your computer.

Drop your export here

The .zip as it arrived, the unzipped folder, or loose files. Buho works out which export it is, so you never have to say — and reads it here, in this tab, without uploading any of it.
